Trying to Undo the Damage

If I can help it, I will never out-source any car repair or restoration work ever again. Apparently, in this new Nazi age, caring about the work you do is a thing of the past, and we should all be grifters. A fine example of this is the work done on my front fender.

3-D Printing for Neither Fun nor Profit

I decided to model the broken sunroof drain in Fusion360, and then print it on my Prusa printer. Surely this would be a “quick” and “easy” alternative to spending big bux? It worked out in the end, but the process was really rather frustrating: Fusion is difficult for complex shapes (for amateurs like me), and 3-D printing still seems much more an art than a science.

The last welding job I farmed out was both expensive and the work so bad the piece is unusable (sadly, it’s the right front wing on the ’55 Morgan). After just a few weeks (ahem) of looking, Craigslist has coughed up a used example for me to burn holes in metal with. Fixing that awful fender work will be the first thing tackled when I have figured out how to use the thing.

Leather Assessment

I made new backing panels for the ’55 Morgan +4 doors and quarter panels from 1/8″ ABS plastic sheet, and those turned out well. However, having then poked them inside the existing leather trim, I’m having a bit of an existential crisis about the interior.
